Unit Radio is a group within The Malling School who produce original comedy plays and interview shows. It was set up by Giles Whitehead in 2008 and is run by staff at The Tydeman Centre, speech, language and autism unit. It is an ongoing project that encourages students to make audio shows as well as producing stage productions.
We develop the radio plays in different ways, through original scripts and improvisation. Ideas grow through collaboration and invention as we build on the strengths of individuals. After recording, we use editing, sound effects and music to enhance the shows. As well as being educational, it is a versatile and fun medium to work with, developing confidence, self-esteem and teamwork skills, as well as helping to build friendships. ” – Giles Whitehead
